A bit about me:

I am a senior at Cupertino High School. Working with YAPA Kids has really developed my collaborative skills with its many leadership opportunities. I have been so lucky to have worked with a diverse range of people during and even after the quarantine. I am excited to continue learning with me team! As an exec member, it's my responsibility to make sure that not only my team but all the other teams and the whole of YAPA Kids are running smoothly. Being an exec member means dipping our fingers into the depths of YAPA Kids and feeling every notch and bump of every branch. By communicating between leaders of each group, there is an interconnectedness exclusive to the exec member where changes in one area will create changes in another. As an exec member, I am to help lay a strong foundation woven across multiple aspects of YAPA Kids in order for the program to remain strong and thriving.

What do you enjoy about helping YAPA Kids?

There is a moment where when a student grasps a concept that their eyes go wide and an almost audible click switches on the idea lightbulb in their brain. That moment is one I will cherish for years to come because it never gets old. There is so much to learn out there that these small epiphanies will never cease to exist. To know that the work I do with my team helps towards creating those bright smiles when the dots connect has pushed me to continue being a part of YAPA Kids.

Team Members

We as a team handle both the application and integration portion of YAPA Kids. This means we have a direct hand in the high school students that become YAPA Kids teachers. We continue to reinvent the application process to ensure that all applicants have an opportunity to showcase their potential. We also handle the preparation of all incoming teachers to maintain a high quality of teaching that will continue to feed the passion for learning YAPA Kids was built on.
